A New Name, A Bigger Vision: Introducing Caregivers Saskatchewan
Welcome to Caregivers Saskatchewan!
For many years, we have been known as The Saskatchewan Caregiver Information and Support Centre, a place in Saskatoon where caregivers could come for information, connection, education, and support.
That work remains at the heart of what we do.
Our vision is growing. We know that caregivers across Saskatchewan are looking for support, and not every caregiver can travel to Saskatoon to access it. Rural and remote caregivers can face additional barriers to finding information, connecting with others, and accessing programs and services close to home.
That is why we are becoming Caregivers Saskatchewan.
The name reflects an important change in how we see our role. We are no longer focused on being one resource centre in one community. Instead, we are working toward building a province-wide network of support that connects caregivers to resources, people, organizations, and opportunities in their own communities and from their own homes.
Building a provincial network
Our vision is to expand our outreach beyond our Saskatoon office by developing a team that can work remotely in communities across Saskatchewan.
Over time, we hope to employ staff who can specialize in supporting caregivers in different regions of the province building local relationships, understanding community needs, identifying gaps, and connecting caregivers with the resources that already exist around them.
This approach recognizes something important:
Communities know their caregivers best.
Rather than creating one large centre that expects caregivers to come to us, we want to help build a network that brings support closer to where caregivers live.
Our Saskatoon location will continue to be an important part of this work. We will maintain our current programming and continue to house caregiver resources at our existing location. At the same time, we will expand opportunities for caregivers to participate virtually, learn online, and connect with others without having to leave home.
From one centre to many connections
Our goal is not to replace community resources. It is to help connect them.
We envision a future where a caregiver in a small rural community can access the same quality of information and connection as someone living in Saskatoon while also being connected to supports and organizations within their own community.
That could mean joining an online education session from home, connecting with another caregiver virtually, finding a local organization that can help, participating in a community-based Caregiver Café, or accessing resources without having to travel long distances.
Growing together
Becoming Caregivers Saskatchewan does not mean leaving our roots behind.
It means taking what we have learned through years of working alongside caregivers in Saskatoon and using that knowledge to build something bigger.
We will continue to listen to caregivers, work with communities, strengthen partnerships, develop resources, and identify where gaps exist.
Our goal is to help create a Saskatchewan where caregivers can find the support they need wherever they live.
This is the beginning of a new chapter: from one Caregiver Centre to a province-wide network of caregivers, communities, and organizations working together.
We are becoming Caregivers Saskatchewan because caregiving happens everywhere and support should too.
