Developing a Provincial Caregiving Strategy in Saskatchewan

As a leading organization on aging well and care related issues in Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Council on Aging (SCOA) provides services to older adults, their families, and advocates for healthy aging and well-being for older persons and their caregivers. With the support of the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence, a program of the Azrieli Foundation, SCOA is leading an ambitious initiative to centralize caregiving resources and create a province-wide caregiving strategy.

This one-year initiative includes:

•Expansion of the meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.

• The creation of a training manual for regional caregiver facilitators.

• The development of a regional network of caregiver facilitators.

• The creation of a provincial on-line resource database for caregivers.

• The creation of an employee/employer tool kit for caregivers.

• The creation of a caregiver volunteer manual

• Developed evidence-based research and advocacy tools to inform policy.

• Participation in the National Caregiving Strategy group.

• Meet with provincial and national policy makers.

With over three decades of experience supporting seniors and caregivers in the Saskatoon area, SCOA is well positioned to collaborate with other provincial initiatives that touch on caregivers and care providers.
